Title: Beating Ruby

Beating Ruby

Author: Camilla Monk

Series: Spotless #2

Publication: January 26th 2016

Rating: 4 Crowns

Summary: Life hasn’t been quite the same for computer engineer Island Chaptal since March, an OCD-ridden professional killer, burst into her life to clean her bedroom and take her on a global chase for a legendary diamond. Sadly, the (hit) man doesn’t just break bones; he breaks hearts, too.

Since then, Island has found solace in Alex—the perfect boyfriend—and Ruby, a software project about to revolutionize online banking security…for the worse. When Island’s boss is found dead after allegedly using Ruby to steal a vast fortune, it’s up to her to clear his name and recover the money. Someone else wants answers, though, and this time, Island might be in over her head.

From New York to Zürich, it’s going to take the return of a cleaning expert, a mini-octopus, and Island’s wits to beat Ruby. All while deciding whether to trust a man who already jilted her, or one who may have his own deadly secrets…

If you haven't read the first book, Spotless, yet, I highly recommend that you do. I loved the first book and the sequel does not disappoint. The characters, suspense, and mystery will draw you in and before you realize it, you're invested in this quirky book and it's characters. And the romance was interesting to observe too as we see the gradual change between Island and March.

Island is the heroine in this series and it's so entertaining to read about her antics in crazy situations. We definitely see a character growth from the first book. She is forced into this life of crime due to unfortunate circumstances, but I think she handles them very well. She is more confident and refuses to give up in the face of a threat.

Her relationship with March has also grown. I loved reading about his OCD tendencies and frustrations when his standards weren't met. He is a unique character that won't be forgotten. The combination of Islands talent to get into crazy scenarios and March's personality create some funny moments too. Honestly, it was the humor in the book that really sold it to me. The humor is subtle yet amusing and Island's inner dialogue provides some giggles (I'm still laughing about the M&M's scene).

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I even liked Alex, a new character we meet, although he had his faults. I look forward to reading the next installment and learning more about Island's mysterious past. I highly recommend this to mystery romance lovers out there.

*I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
